Caster Wheels
Caster Wheels are typically mounted to a larger object that allows relatively easy rolling movement. They are used on a wide variety of material handling equipment, including carts, wheelbarrows, pallet jacks and tables. Learn more castercity.com
Casters come in two major types: swivel and rigid. Swivel casters pivot around a kingpin and rotate as well as roll. Rigid casters mount their wheels in a fixed frame, or rig, and only roll.
Weight Capacity
Wheel load capacity is influenced by both the material of the wheel along with its diameter. Rubber and plastic wheels can hold a small amount of load while polyurethane, iron core, molded nylon or cast iron casters can take much more.

Different Types of Caster Wheels and Their Unique Features
Caster wheels with a “V” groove help reduce guiding effort, minimize floor wear and increase wheel life by directing the load evenly across the face of the inverted angle iron track. This type of caster is ideal for large loads that require long distance transport, such as surgical and medical equipment.
Maintenance
Casters should be lubricated on a regular basis to maintain their maximum life expectancy. This entails lubricating the bearings and fittings every six months or so.
Hard Rubber
A hard rubber caster wheel is resistant to oil, grease, cleaning agents and most chemicals. They are also resistant to high temperatures and hard impacts, making them durable for a variety of applications.
Glass Filled Nylon
These are tough, non-marking, and extremely durable. They are able to withstand extreme temperatures and are resistant to oils, grease, solvents and most cleaning agents.
